How We Started

50 years ago, founder and CEO of Bene-Marc, Wally Kemp was watching his daughter’s soccer team in 1973, when he witnessed the goalie suffer a severe compound fracture racing to stop the opponent from scoring a goal. While reflecting on the accident late that night, Wally Kemp began to question if there was an insurance solution to help protect student-athletes in case of injury.

As a seasoned insurance agent, Wally discovered that youth sports insurance for camps and leagues was virtually unheard of at this time. Wally Kemp made a decision to open the doors to Bene-Marc to offer coverage to those who needed it most, youth sports participants.

Today, Bene-Marc is a leader in sports insurance working with thousands of youth camps and clinics, leagues, tournaments and special events in all 50 states.

Wally Kemp was proud to hand over the reins of the company to his daughter, Lisa Hall, in 2008, where the entrepreneurial spirit lives today.
